The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Joseph A. Miller, Jr. Dr. Miller, an honor graduate of Greenwood High School, received numerous scholarships and awards in recognition of his academic achievements. He matriculated to Clemson University in 1991. At Clemson, Dr. Miller excelled academically and in extra-curricular activities. He was a Clemson Scholar, a recipient of the Black Student of Promise award, and an early graduate of Calhoun Honors College. Dr. Miller was also a leading member of the Kappa Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, where he was elected to the role of Keeper of Records in 1993. Dr. Miller graduated from Clemson a semester early in December 1994 with a degree in Physics.
Dr. Miller went on to earn a Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. Licensed to practice in the state of Georgia, Dr. Miller continued his academic endeavors. Dr. Miller completed his residency at Emory University in Atlanta in 2002. While working at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Miller was awarded a fellowship to specialize in Oncology\Hematology.
Dr. Joseph A. Miller Jr. was tragically taken from us on November 25, 2004 – Thanksgiving Day, while he was on his way to South Carolina to visit his family.
Dr. Miller’s legacy is one of academic excellence and selfless commitment to others. The alumni and undergraduate members of the Kappa Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi have created this scholarship to reward those individuals that, like Dr. Miller, excel in all areas of life.
